Home Is Where the Heart Is

I don't know why, but God has really been changing my idea of "home" lately. I've only lived in one place my entire life, so my idea of where I should feel "at home" is at the house where I was born and raised with my family. BUT, as I've been meditating lately on the idea that heaven is my real, eternal home, that's all been changing. It's almost like this idea of "home" has become a weight in my life. I feel like I can't leave it or I have to stick close by because I don't belong anywhere else.

During hurricane Gustav relief, I spent most of my time helping out in Donaldsonville. I had never been to this campus before, but after only a few days there, I realized that I felt completely "at home". I can be real there. I can just be me there, and it makes sense. Not only does it make sense, though, it actually benefits the people in the community and furthers the kingdom of God. I don't have to change for anyone or perform. I can just love and serve people as my true self. It's a beautiful thing! Yesterday was my last day there full time, and my heart is so sad. So, today, I truly understand what it means to say home is where the heart is, and really mean it. It feels like my heart has always been searching for "home" and has found it, not just in a place, but in a spirit, in a community, and in a team.

It was the most amazing thing I've done so far in ministry and has and will impact my life forever. I cannot describe how incredible it has been to see the church and the government partnering together to meet the needs of the people in Donaldsonville. We were able to form new connections, start great friendships, and truly be the light and the salt! All of this, TO MAKE JESUS FAMOUS AND TOUCH LIVES!

Here are just a few of the pictures I took of our experience! I hope you look at them and see what we see - love, unity, friendship, fun, and blessings. That's what you find in Donaldsonville.

You Blogged!!! Call the press...oh wait this is the press. Call the National Guard...oh that's a bad idea too...they are all kind of busy right now.

Anyway...you should do this more often. You have a lot of good stuff in that heart of yours that the world needs to hear.
